John Berger

Born: 5 November 1926, Stoke Newington, London Died: 2 January 2017, Antony, France

Way back when I was about seven years old I remember seeing Ways of seeing on the television in black and white. I wasn’t sure entirely what it was that this man was talking about, but I was struck by his intensity and passion. Whatever it was that he was talking about, it registered and struck a chord with me. All these years later his name re-appears in my world, and here I am having bought not only Ways of seeing, but also Understanding a photograph.

Both books open so many avenues of thought. As yet I haven’t been able to read them cover to cover as I’d like, but only as a reference book.
