Fay Godwin

Fay Godwin. Born 17/02/31, died 27/05/05.

Godwin is best known for her black & white images of the British countryside. She often used a deep depth of field to great effect, creating many a juxtaposition within her works. From 1987 – 1990 she was president of The Ramblers’ Association, a position which probably sat well with her and went hand in glove with what she liked to photograph. Her images show that she had travelled the length and breadth of Great Britain. Much of her work has heavy undertones/overtones of a land of mystery and legend, very Arthurian. A large portion of her images are from wild, remote and exposed places, and much of the atmosphere which is captured is created by the weather and consequently the lighting it created.
